What Is Meteoroids?

Meteoroids is one among applications that are designed to display various ads on users’ web browsers, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. In most cases, users find this application on their computers without any knowledge, which means that this application gets installed users’ computers in an aggressive manner. Users do not notice its existence until their computers are flooded by many annoying ads and deals. For this reason, Meteoroids is also considered as an adware program or potentially unwanted program. Generally, this adware will get installed on users’ web browsers as an add-on and then start generating a lot of ads, deals, savings, coupons, promotions, banners, etc. By clicking on those pop-ups, users will be redirected to some purchasing web pages. Although this adware is not as malicious as a virus or Trojan horse, users still have to remove it immediately. To offer more personalized ads, this adware will monitor users’ online activities, track their browser cookies and then send the data to its creators. Those data collected will provide basis for the analysis of users’ browsing habits. Also, Meteoroids adware can bring other effects to users’ computers, such as computer performance degradation, browser redirection, slow browser response, and even system crash. In a word, Meteoroids is a potential threat to users’ computers and it should be removed from the infected computers without any delay.
